I really like Garryas. Chamise is a plant I associate with the too hot, too dry areas inland, hadn't really considered planting one. I've seen the low growing form looking good in the Tilden bot garden, though. Much cooler than the prostrate rosemary.

Gayle, the Las Pilitas burn chart is definitely a good resource that's worth a look. It's grown since the last time I looked at it. Very cool.

Alice, thanks for the wishes. The home stretch finally is in sight...and could that be? a lounge chair nearby? Woohoo!

TM, ouch! I'm so sorry to hear about the arm! I hope it's not the one that blogs! Best wishes for a speedy recovery, though I guess that means at least six weeks these days...

i also bought quite a few plants at various sales over the last few weeks. i was looking forward to putting them all in this weekend -- then i stumbled and broke my arm last wednesday. grrr. fortunately, i was able to hire someone good, and now most things are in. so, don't wait too long, you never know what comes up.

Hi James,
I've been thinking of you and recalling how exhausting it was to remodel/rebuild when I moved in here. You have my good wishes aimed at the completion of all the wall/house projects that have been keeping you from gardening.
And, I look forward to seeing these new plants installed in your garden!
Maybe of pic of you reclining, without a care in the world ;~D

The Las Pilitas chart of leaf burn times suggests that chamise burns a bit faster than the most fire-resistant natives, but not extremely fast. Good luck with your new plants!
